4-H recognizes award-winners

Press release

Hill County 4-H held its End-of-Year Celebration and Donor Recognition Dinner Oct. 14 at the 4-H Chuckwagon.

In front of a crowd of 140 people that included the 4-H community and Chuckwagon project supporters, the 2018 "Leader of the Year" and "Friend of 4-H" awards were presented.

The 2018 "Leader of the Year" award" was presented to Carrie Molitor of the Happy Havre 4-H Club. Carrie is an exception leader. She gives a great deal of her time not only to the Chuckwagon project but to the kids. She is always patient, understanding and a voice of reason. Carrie leads the 4-H organization to be better not just as 4-H members but as productive community members also. She makes 4-H a learning experience while still making it fun and entertaining. She works diligently to ensure that the members grow and learn to be better. Carrie is not only the organizational leader for the Happy Havre 4-H Club, but also serves as the 4-H Council president.

Three "Friend of 4-H" awards also were presented. The first went to Bear Paw Meats and the Buck family. These folks have supported Hill County 4-H for many years. Every year they have made a truck, trailer and driver available to haul animals to Chinook after our 4-H Livestock Sale. They have also supported our sale by buying animals and have provided a sale bid caller.

The next "Friend of 4-H" award was presented to Wally and Marjorie Duchscher. These folks have always supported the community and 4-H. They truly stepped up this year in supporting the Chuckwagon project. They not only donated financially, but Wally also joined in to lend a hand with the work needing to be done so the 4-H Chuckwagon was ready to open the first day of the fair.

The final "Friend of 4-H" award went to Bear Paw Veterinary Services and Dr. Paul and Mary Ann McCann. These folks have been strong 4-H supporters for a very long time. This year the remodel and construction at the Bigger Better Barn made it so our 4-H Horse members could not hold their weekly practice workshops. A phone call was made to ask if the McCann Arena could be used by the horse members. There was no hesitation when they said "yes." The McCann arena was used from May 1 through July 10 free of charge. Additionally, the arena was disked and groomed prior to each weekly workshop. These folks went the extra mile to make sure our horse leaders had everything they needed. They also hosted the 4-H Showmanship Clinic which was on May 23. Electric power and space for the workshop was provided, as well as a meeting place for the barbecue potluck that followed. Bear Paw Vet also provides vet services at fair weigh-in and inspects the animals to make sure they are healthy and showing no signs of sickness. If Dr. McCAnn cannot be there personally, he makes sure an associate is on hand to help us out.
