Rocky Boy holds week of Red Ribbon events

Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation has set a full week of activities during Red Ribbon Week to promote drug-free living.

A release from Rocky Boy said the Chippewa Cree Business Committee issued a proclamation declaring the week Red Ribbon Week on the reservation, with the theme “Life is a Journey Travel Drug Free” and inviting all community members and departments to participate.

Monday at Rocky Boy is Be Red-Y to Live a Drug Free Life day, with people invited to wear red ribbons with traditional dress. Rocky Boy Wellness Coalition members will be handing out red ribbons to pin to their shirt or tie to their vehicle antenna.

Rocky Boy Health Promotion Tobacco Program will sponsor a Red Door contest at Box Elder and Rocky Boy Schools, with doors to be decorated with the Red Ribbon Week theme and prizes awarded after the doors are judged. Winners will be announced Wednesday at noon. People are to contact Theda Morsette at 395-4486 to register.

The Chippewa Cree Housing Department is also holding a door-decorating contest for tribal departments and community members, with prizes also awarded after judging and winners to be announced Wednesday at noon. People can contact Thela Billy at 395-4370 to register.

Tuesday is “It’s Cool to be Drug Free” day, with people asked to wear sunglasses and take selfies to share. The Wellness Coalition is sponsoring a Selfie Wearing Unique Sunglasses contest for selfies posted on the Wellness Coalition Facebook page with the caption “It’s Cool To Be Drug Free!” People must contact Elinor Nault to register by texting the selfie to 945-3767 or tagging the Wellness Coalition Facebook page. Prizes will be awarded for the top three entries.

Wednesday, “I’m Too Bright for Drugs” day, the Wellness Coalition is sponsoring a Wear Bright Red contest with prizes to the top four places for people wearing the brightest reds. Judging begins at 8:30 a.m. and finishes by 1 p.m., and people must register by calling Nault at 945-3767 or 395-4375 and coming to the tribal court for a picture.

Thursday is “Follow Your Dreams Don’t Do Drugs” day and people are asked to wear pajamas. They can follow law enforcement officers from Agency Square to the Rocky Boy schools at 11 a.m displaying Red Ribbon messages.

Also Thursday, the White Sky Hope Center is teaming up with the the local drug task force to hold a Drug Awareness free luncheon which will be served at 12:30 p.m. at Kenewash Hall at Stone Child College including a presentation about new types of drugs, how the drugs are being used and how to identify drugs and what people should do if they find a drug or unknown substance. The movie “Hungry Heart,” a look at the often-hidden world of prescription drug addiction through the world of Vermont pediatrician Fred Holmes who works with patients struggling with this disease, will be shown at 6 p.m. in the Stone Child College Vo-Tech building. Friday’s theme is “Give Drugs the Boot.” Poeple can wear boots and Western clothing to the Monster Bash Masquerade Dance from 7 to 10 p.m. at the collegein the Vo-Tech buildings. The Wellness Coalition, TANF, law enforcement and the Health Board will sponsor the dance to promote awareness for suicide prevention. Prizes will be awarded in the Most Humorous and Best Dancer categories.
