Local man in jail after lengthy high-speed chase

A local man is in the Hill County Detention Center on more than $75,000 bond after leading law enforcement from three agencies on a chase Sunday from Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation through Beaver Creek Park and into Havre.

Jacob Crebs, born in 1991, was in the jail this morning facing charges of two counts of violations of conditions of release; fleeing from law enforcement officers; reckless driving; operating a motor vehicle without registration; driving without a driver's license, 13th offense, and of driving without insurance, second offense.

Crebs had a 12-month sentence, all suspended and with credit for time served, re-imposed last year after violating conditions of release in a sentence for a 2013 charge of selling drugs on or near school property.

The chase Sunday came after Crebs did not appear for arraignment on charges filed earlier this year.

April 8, a Montana Highway Patrol trooper attempted to pull Crebs over when he ran a registration check and found the license plates on the silver Chevrolet Impala belonged to a red Dodge Caravan.

Crebs led the trooper on a chase, eventually pulling over on 19th Avenue West and U.S. Highway 2 on the west side of Havre with both occupants of the Impala trying to flee, a court document said..

The trooper apprehended the two, including Crebs. Crebs said they fled because he was scared, the document said. The trooper found a prescription drug not belonging to Crebs in his hand and found paraphernalia in the vehicle, the document said. The trooper also found Crebs had outstanding warrants for his arrest as well as a suspended driver's license and no insurance information was found in the vehicle.

Crebs was charged with a felony count of drug possession and misdemeanor counts of possession of paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license and failure to carry proof of insurance. He did not appear for his arraignment.

A court document said that Sunday, Rocky Boy police called the Hill County Sheriff's Office asking for help in a high-speed pursuit of Crebs, who fled when they tried to pull him over because warrants were outstanding for his arrest.

Crebs led Rocky Boy police on a chase on secondary roads, eventually ending up on Beaver Creek Highway, where Hill County deputies were following and trying to join the chase, the document said.

Crebs led the Rocky Boy officers into Havre, near Havre High School, then through residential areas of Havre before turning onto U.S. Highway 2 near the Oakwood Village Apartments and leading the officers on a chase west, the document said. He then turned north on Seventh Avenue before finally stopping and surrendering to the officers on the 400 Block of First Street North, the document said.

The deputies joined the Rocky Boy officers, were briefed and took custody of Crebs, taking him to the detention center, the document said.
