The Hill County undersheriff said a report of shooting near Box Elder Tuesday that led to several arrests was about target shooting.

Undersheriff Stan Martin said today that the office received a call at 12:46 Tuesday reporting shots fired near the Box Elder post office.

When deputies arrived, they found the shooter was involved in target practice.

“There was no conflict or threat to persons on that,” he said.

The investigation did lead to the arrest of six people who were with the shooter on different charges including obstructing a peace officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and on court warrants.

Martin said the person who was shooting was not arrested and the incident is still under investigation.
