Snow falling in the state, along the Hi-Line

Havre and the Hi-Line joined the Bear Paw Mountains and areas south with snow accumulating on the ground this morning, although the forecast did not predict much of an accumulation in the northern part of the Golden Triangle.

Parts of the state south and west of this region are in a winter weather advisory through this afternoon.

A National Weather Service map on its Great Falls website this morning showed snow from Cut Bank through much of the Missouri Breaks including south to Great Falls and another system along the Canadian border from the Sweetgrass Hills to Havre and Chinook. Yet another patch of snow was falling from the southern edge of Fort Belknap Indian Reservation through Dodson and Malta northeast into Canada.

Other areas with snow include the southern part of the Flathead Valley and patches from Hamilton to Missoula, Butte and Helena, as well as from Lewistown to north of Bilings up to Winnett.

A winter weather advisory was in place from Lewistown spreading as it went west to the northwest and southwest corners of the state, including Fort Benton and Carter in Chouteau County. The advisory calls for up to two to three inches of snow to accumulate.

The forecast for Liberty, Hill and Blaine counties called for light accumulations of snow with Weather Service giving the highest chance of accumulation in Liberty County with up to half-an-inch predicted.

Weather Service does not predict more snow in the next few days although it is likely Friday night and Saturday.

Highs today are predicted in the 20s with lows in the single digits tonight, warming slightly as the week progresses.
