Obituary - George P. Noffsinger

George P. Noffsinger, 80, passed away due to natural causes at Northern Montana Hospital on Saturday, November 17, 2018.

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 23, 2018, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church.

George's family has suggested memorial donations be made in his memory to St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements.

George was born on September 1, 1938, in Helena to George W. and Genevieve (Chevallier) Noffsinger. He was raised along the Hi-Line, graduating from Havre High School in 1957. In 1961, George married his high school sweetheart, Dolores Kraft, at St. Jude. The couple had two children, whom they raised in Havre. George worked as a brakeman for the railroad, from its days as Great Northern through the changes resulting in the current BNSF. He retired in the early 2000s.

George enjoyed gardening, traveling with his wife, Dolores, golfing, skiing, and hunting and fishing when he was younger. When planning such trips, his first priority was the purchase of sufficient amount of chocolate - lots. Family was very important to him, and every moment spent with them was treasured. George was also an avid sports fan. He loved to watch sports, whether it was football, baseball, basketball or golf, but his favorite college team was Notre Dame.

One of the highlights of his life was representing the Montana Democratic Party in May of 1980. He attended at a series of meetings at the White House, where he got to meet President Carter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Genevieve Noffsinger.

George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dolores Noffsinger of Havre; children Jody, (Kevin) Hellegaard of Havre and Ross Noffsinger of Anchorage, AK; grandchildren, Karla (Brus) Layson, Sultana and Siena Noffsinger, and Zachary Hellegaard; siblings, Mary Gen Little of FL, and Jim Noffsinger and Helen Clark of Whitefish, and several nieces and nephews.
