Punkin was born on August 24, 1943, in Fort Belknap to George and Freida (LaPierre) Gardipee. She was raised in Rocky Boy and Helena, graduating from high school in Ontario, California. After graduation, she married Dave Collins, and the couple had one son before divorcing a couple of years later. Punkin had a daughter a few years later, and returned to Helena, Montana, in the mid-1970s to be nearer to her family. She married Doug Glen in 1981, and the couple divorced some time later. Over the years, Punkin worked hard as a waitress, and after her son Michael passed in 2002, she raised his son, SkyChief.

She was a bubbly woman with a great sense of humor who loved reading, watching TV, especially the old Westerns, "Magnum PI," and "Kojak," cooking and playing board games with her grandson, SkyChief. She took her care of him very seriously, and instilled a love of education and pride in doing his best in everything he does.

Punkin was preceded in death by her parents, George and Freida Gardipee; son Michael Collins; and siblings Leon, Cecelia, Bernadette, Louis, and Everett.

She is survived by her beloved grandson, SkyChief Collins of Helena; daughter, Misty McDermott of Missoula; siblings Michael "Duke" (Melissa) Gardipee of Helena and Evelyn "Toni" LaMere of Billings; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
