Ice Hawks battle Butte in the Havre Ice Dome

The Havre Ice Hawks were back on their home Ice this weekend inside the Havre Ice Dome. However, against the Butte Copper Kings, it still wasn’t enough to get into the win column.

Havre and Butte did play a pair of close games over the weekend in Havre, but the Ice Hawks fell short in each outing, falling 5-3 Friday and 5-4 Saturday. In the first game of the weekend set between the Ice Hawks and the Copper Kings, Havre got on the board early and led 1-0, as well as 2-1 thanks to a pair of goals from Ethan Roberts. Roberts scored the third goal, reaching a hat trick in the second period, however, Butte scored twice more in the second and added an insurance goal in the third to notch the 5-3 win.

Roberts scored all three Havre goals in the loss. Theron Peterson also contributed with an assist, as did Bridger Staples and Trent Shettel. Kinzee Peterson also had a solid night in goal, stopping 29 of the 34 shots she faced.

On Saturday, Roberts scored again in the opening stanza for the Ice Hawks, yet Butte scored two goals to take a 2-1 edge in the second. In the next 20 minutes, Butte scored two more goals, giving the Copper Kings a 4-1 lead going into the third. Havre did make a comeback in the final period, as Tavish McLean and August Eacker each found the of the net, but the equalizer never came and the Ice Hawks went down 4-3. Roberts had a goal and an assist in the loss for Havre, while Eacker and McLean each had a goal. Staples and Peterson also had one assist each in the loss. Trennis Riley also had 29 saves in defeat.

The Ice Hawks are now 2-6-2 on the season and the will be back in action this weekend when they will host Salmon, Idaho for back-to-back games inside the Havre Ice Dome Saturday and Sunday.
