Fire in Box Elder burns about 50 acres

Last night about 9 p.m., the Rocky Boy Fire Department received a call that a wild-land fire had started just outside of Box Elder on Lower Box Elder Road.

Fire Management Officer Theron Oats said the department initially responded to the fire and then called in assistance from Box Elder and Bear Paw Volunteer Fire departments.

“When we got there, the fire was driven by wind, so we needed a little extra help,” Oats said.

It took about five hours to bring the fire under control.

Oats added that they think the fire burned a little over 50 acres, but they “haven’t mapped it yet.”

There were no injuries and wild-land fire investigators have been called to come investigate the cause of the fire.
