Ice Hawks pick up points in Glasgow

After having a few weeks off, the Havre Ice Hawks were back on the ice this past weekend, as the team traveled to Glasgow for back-to-back games against the Ice Dawgs.

The two teams met twice Saturday in Glasgow and following a 4-4 tie in the first meeting, Havre edged out Glasgow in the second for an 8-7 victory. The Ice Hawks are now 7-6-3 on the season, which gives them 17 points in the MAHA standings, good enough for fifth place. Havre trails only Billings, Butte, Bozeman and Missoula while leading Helena, Glasgow, Great Falls, Kalispell and Salmon, Idaho.

Against Glasgow, Havre got its third tie of the season in the first matchup between the two teams. Cole Hanson scored in the first period to put the Ice Hawks in front, then in the second period, Havre surrendered four consecutive goals before Hanson scored his second of the game to make it 4-2 Glasgow heading to the third period. In the final stanza, Ethan Roberts found the back of the net twice to tie the game at 4-4, which is how it would end. Trent Shettel, August Eacker and Tavish McLean all had one assist for Havre. Kinzee Peterson had 40 saves in net.

After the two teams tied, Havre and Glasgow met again and this time, Havre jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first period as Roberts scored twice on his way to yet another hat trick. In the second period, Roberts scored his third goal and Havre also got two scores from Bridger Staples, giving the Ice Hawks a 5-4 lead with 20 minutes left.

Glasgow quickly tied the game in the third, however, back-to-back goals from Donovan McLain put the Ice Hawks back up 7-5, before Glasgow scored two more times to even things up with just over 10 minutes to play. But with the score tied up at 7-7, Staples scored his third goal, which also turned out to be the game-winner. Roberts and Staples both finished with hat tricks while Trennis Riley stopped 28 shots between the pipes.
