Ben Crebs and the Rocky Boy Stars repeated as District 1B boys champions this past weekend in Shelby. The Stars second straight 1B title pushes them into next week's Northern B Divisional, which will also be in Shelby.

While many Hi-line basketball fans were focused on the District 9C tournament in Havre, there was also some important Class B basketball taking place with both the District 1B and 2B tournaments being held over the weekend.

Both District 1B tournaments were hosted in Shelby, while the 2B tournaments were in Glasgow. On the boys side of things, Rocky Boy had a stellar weekend, winning the 1B for the second year in a row with a 56-53 win over Fairfield Saturday night. The Stars got 20 points in the win from Frankie Bacon, as well as nine from Blake Cantrell and eight from Olin Arkinson.

That win will send Rocky Boy to the Northern B Divisional tournament as the top seed from the 1B, giving the Stars the best route back to the Class B state tournament, where they finished third last season.

In order to get into the championship game, Rocky Boy first had to knock off Shelby Friday and against the host team, Rocky Boy used a 19-point second quarter to grab an eight-point lead at halftime, then the Stars held on for the 65-60 win. Jordan Tyner was the big scorer for Rocky Boy, going off for 24 points, while Bacon pitched in with 18.

The Rocky Boy girls, also playing in Shelby, didn't find the same success as the boys team and Friday night against Fairfield, the Stars lost handily 63-31. Rocky Boy still had a chance to advance to the Northern B, yet they lost Saturday morning to Choteau 50-38. Sasha Coffee had 12 points for the Stars in the loss.

In the District 2B tournament, the Harlem girls made it to the championship game Saturday night against Wolf Point after notching a 66-52 win over Glasgow Friday night. L'Tia Lawrence went off for 26 in the win, while Taya Trottier also contributed with 16.

In the championship game in Glasgow Saturday night, the Wildcats were unable to overcome Wolf Point and the 31 points scored by Imani Bighorn. Lawrence had 13 points in the loss. For the second straight season, Harlem will head back to divisionals. The Wildcats will play Choteau Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Malta.

The Harlem boys won't be joining the Wildcat girls at divisionals as they were defeated by Glasgow 72-70 in a play-in game. That loss ended the season for Harlem.
