Fair board sets second and final public forum for Tuesday

The Great Northern Fair Board will be holding its second and final public forum meeting at the 4-H Chuckwagon Building Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Fair Board Chair Tyler Smith said the board is holding these meetings because the public voted to provide the fair board with a mill levy for the fairgrounds. These forums, he said, were the best way to get community input on what they would like to see the mill levy used for.

The first forum went well, he said, with approximately 20 people from the community in attendance. He said that during the meeting people were prompted to express what changes they wanted to see at the fairgrounds.

Members of the public expressed a desire for improvements being made to signage; drainage; various buildings, including the Bigger Better Barn and creation a parking area for the Chuckwagon; a parking area west of the Bigger Better Barn, as well as much more, he said.

The goal of the second meeting, Smith said, will be to go over the improvements mentioned in the previous forum. He said they will make a list of priorities and look at the profitability and return on investments of each project.

He added that this forum will be followed by the monthly fair board meeting in the Timmons Room March 18, where they will discuss the priorities decided at the forum.

“We look forward to seeing the public at the 4-H Chuckwagon at 6:30 (p.m.) on March 5,” Smith said.
