Skylights ink standout middle blocker from Northwest CC

Tammy Maddock is the first recruit of the Jerry Wagner era

New Montana State University-Northern volleyball coach Jerry Wagner has been on the recruiting trail since he was announced as the Skylight's head man not long ago.

On Thursday, Wagner announced his first signee.

The Skylights announced the signing of Tammy Maddock a middle blocker from Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming, where she was an Academic All-American.

Maddock is a 5-10 middle, who not only comes to Northern with a 3.9 GPA, but also accolades that include NJCAA All-Region IX North Team and a two time NJCAA Academic All-American.

"Tammy Maddock exemplifies the characteristics that I felt would complement the returning players and assist our program in the pursuit of becoming a competitive team within the Frontier Conference," Wagner said. "Tammy brings a tremendous work ethic, is a fantastic teammate, is a strong academic fit and possesses the ability to compete at a high level."

Maddock went to Shoshoni High School in Shoshoni, Wyoming. While she was there, she received numerous academic honors including Shoshoni High school student of the month, Riverton Ranger Student of the Week, Superintendents Honor Roll. She has also received the 2017-John Coulthard Student Citizen of the Year Award presented by the Winder River Grand Masonic Lodge #25.

While at Shoshoni High School, Tammy received honors for volleyball as well. She was 2017 All-State, Fremont County Player of the Year, female recipient of the Wilford Mower Award, 2A Northwest player of the year in 2016-2017, and Shoshoni Female Athlete of the Year.

"I chose MSU-N because both the volleyball program and academics was a great fit," Maddock said. "As a student-athlete, academics are a high priority for me, and I know MSU-N has a great elementary ed program that will prepare me for my future. I've heard great things about the town of Havre and about the great support that the community has. On the volleyball side of things, I know Coach Wagner has great things planned for the program. I have so much passion and love for the game and I'm so excited to start helping rebuild the program. I am very excited to be a part of the program, go Skylights."
