Hello, God. It's me, Mara

He watches over us

You know, Lord, I’ll bet all of us pretty well remember when we were little kids our mama would sneak into our bedroom to check to see if we were asleep, or for sure, to check in on us when we were sick. That’s what parents do, right? Sometimes Ma or Pa would sit near us to pray for us, joining You, Lord, as they knew that You also were watching over us while we slept.

An auntie shared that sometimes while in the act of checking on her little ones, she felt like she was bathing herself in the grace and wonder of Your love, Lord, and thanking You for giving her such blessings. What a great delight and joy fills us with unspeakable wonder when we think about You, Lord, looking in on us the same way we stop to look at our children, praying for them, marveling at the wonder of these precious gifts that are from You.

Auntie is long gone now but even as she grew older, she still loved to look in on her children as they’d grown older. As a guest, it was special to hear Auntie quietly climb the stairs to check on her boys, now full-grown — or maybe it was to check on me! Thinking about back then, that’s still a special thought.

Perhaps not all little ones are taught the little prayer that starts out: “Now I lay me down to sleep, and pray that You, O Lord, will keep me safely in Your loving care.” We thank You, Lord, for Your grace and love, and that You, now above, do share with us our every care, and You let us know that You are always there.

Thank You for Psalm 121:3 “He will not let your foot slip — He who watches over you will not slumber …”

Love, Mara
