Indie-genous Film Festival set for Saturday at MSU

BOZEMAN — The Society of American Indian Graduate Students at Montana State University will host its third annual Indie-genous Film Festival Saturday in the Procrastinator Theater inside MSU’s Strand Union Building.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public. There will be four indigenous films featured that cover an array of topics, and attendees can stay for one film or for all:

• “100 Years: One Woman’s Fight for Justice” (9 a.m.): The story of Eloise Cobell, a Blackfeet woman who successfully filed a $3.4 billion lawsuit against the United States government for mismanagement of mineral-rich land.

• Keep Talking” (10:55 a.m.): Four Alaska Native women fight for the revitalization of the Kodiak Alutiiq language.

• “Blood Memory” (12:05 p.m.): Battles over blood quantum and “best interests” reveal the untold history of America’s Indian Adoption Era.

• “More than Frybread” (2:05 p.m.): Twenty-two Native American frybread makers convene in Flagstaff, Arizona, to compete for the first-ever State of Arizona Frybread Championship.
