2019 Havre Daily All Hi-Line Boys Team

There's never a shortage of talent when it comes to boys basketball on the Hi-Line and team success, and the annual Havre Daily News All Hi-Line Team supports that thought.

And in 2019, the talent was on display on the Hi-Line.

From the historic run by the Chinook Sugarbeeters, to another standout year in Rocky Boy, to a much-improved Havre Blue Pony squad, and everywhere in between, it was another outstanding year of boys basketball in our coverage area, and the 2019 All Hi-Line Boys Team reflects that.

Of the 12 players voted onto the All Hi-Line Team, four return from last year's list, while 10 are upper classmen, including seven seniors. There's also a representative from every level of Hi-Line basketball, from Class A to Class C, and five local programs put more than one player on the list. Interestingly, this year's All Hi-Line Team also has no freshmen for the second straight year, meaning the list is composed mostly of veteran players.

Isaac Bell, Chinook

Bell makes his third straight appearance on the All Hi-Line Team. He wrapped up a brilliant four-year career for the Sugarbeeters, of head coach Mike Seymour, by averaging in double figures for the fourth straight season. On his way to Class C All-State honors, Bell, Chinook's holder of the single-game scoring record, also helped lead the Beeters to a 25-0 record before a loss in the Class C semifinals, as well as the Beeters' first Northern C title and second straight District 9C championship.

Kellen Detrick, Havre

Detrick is on the All Hi-Line Team for the first time, and in his sophomore campaign, he made a huge splash. The super-athletic Detrick led the Blue Ponies in both scoring and rebounding on his way to Central A First-Team All-Conference honors, something he also did on the football field last fall. Detrick will return next winter as one of the top juniors in all of Montana high school hoops.

Cord Schneider, Chinook

Like his good buddy Bell, Schneider is on the All Hi-Line Team for the third year in a row. In helping Chinook to its first state tournament berth in 33 years, Schneider averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds per game, and in the postseason, those numbers went up to 21 ppg and 13 rpg. Schneider also earned Class C All-State honors again this season, while helping his Beeters repeat as 9C champions and win their historic first-ever Northern C crown.

Cody Welsh, Turner

Welsh is on the All Hi-Line Team for the second straight year. The Turner senior led the 9C in scoring, averaging more than 21 ppg, while also leading the Tornadoes in rebounds and steals. A returning state champion in track and field, Welsh also earned Class C All-State honors for the first time this winter, and, was an All-Conference performer for the Harlem football team last fall.

Garrett Diekhans, Fort Benton

After a breakout sophomore season, Diekhans only got better in his junior campaign. He averaged nearly 18 points per game and, at 6-5, has become a true inside-outside threat. Diekhans helped Fort Benton to the 9C championship game, and a second straight trip to the Northern C, which also earned him Class C All-State honors for the second year in a row.

Jeremy Pretty Paint, Hays-Lodge Pole

Pretty Paint was a force for the Thunderbirds this winter. The senior averaged 13 points and nine rebounds per night on his way to earning 9C All-Conference honors and helping the T-Birds reach the Class C state tournament for the first time in three years. This is Pretty Paint's first trip to the All Hi-Line Team, and he's one of three T-Birds to make the list.

Tommy Brown, Havre

Brown makes his first appearance on the All Hi-Line Team, after a strong senior season as head coach Walynn Burgess' Blue Pony point guard. Brown averaged close to 10 points per game, while leading Class A in assist to turnover ratio, in what was his third season on the HHS varsity squad. He also earned Central A All-Conference honors this season, and, he is one of the top returning tennis players in Class A coming into the spring.

Jordan Tyner, Rocky Boy

Tyner had a big season for the Stars and, in doing so, earned Class B All-State honors. Rocky Boy's leading scorer and rebounder, Tyner helped the Stars win the District 1B title, as well as advance to the Class B state tournament for yet another year.

Kyle Young Jr., Hays-Lodge Pole

Young Jr., was an outstanding scoring threat for the T-Birds, of head coach Derrick Shambo. He was a deadly 3-point shooter, and, in helping HLP reach the Northern C championship game, and the Class C state tournament, he averaged over 13 points per night, which also earned him Class C All-State honors.

Hayden Diekhans, Fort Benton

Diekhans makes history on the All Hi-Line Team, as he and older brother Garrett become the first set of brothers to make the squad in the same year. Just a sophomore, Diekhans excelled from the 3-point-line, and averaged over 14 points per night. He helped Fort Benton to a second-place finish at the 9C, and also earned Class C All-State honors for the first time.

Hunter Neibauer, Chinook

Like many do, Neibauer broke out during his junior season. On a loaded Chinook team, Neibauer averaged close to 10 points and eight rebounds per night, during a magical year in which Chinook went undefeated in the regular season, repeated as 9C champions, won the Northern C for the first time and reached the Class C state semifinals earlier this month in Billings. Neibauer was also one of three Chinook players to be named Class C All-State.

Frankie Bacon, Rocky Boy

Bacon makes it six consecutive years in which two or more Stars make the All Hi-Line Team. Bacon, who earned District 1B All-Conference honors, averaged 13 points per game for the Stars, but on their way to a fourth-place finish at the Class B state tournament, he upped that average to more than 19 points per game.

Gilbert Snow, Hays-Lodge Pole

One of three T-Birds to make the list, HLP's senior point guard averaged 11 ppg, while being noted as one of the top defenders in the 9C. Snow also averaged almost three steals per game, as he earned Class C All-State honors, and helped the T-Birds to their first state tourney appearance in three years.

Editor's Note: The All Hi-Line Boys Team is voted on by available area coaches, as well as members of the Havre Daily News sports staff. The team does not reflect the opinion of any single individual.
