News you can use

Hello, God. It's Me, Mara.

Spring has ‘sprung’!

You know, Lord, seasons sometimes just seem to slip on by us. Now that it’s officially spring, it’s so nice to see green grass springing up all over the neighborhood. When the grass dies, we are reminded once again of how short our lives are. But then when spring comes, we usually think about birth and since we’re close to some ranches, we know that it is ‘time’ for the birth of new baby calves, little lambs and maybe even baby chicks. The deer that winter near here, usually head off to the mountains to have their new babies. The bunny rabbits are due back any time.

And then we think of new human babies born and the lovely pictures shared with us from various relatives. Even if we don’t happen to know the parents, it’s really special that aunts, uncles and even some dear grandparents are delighted to share with us the pictures of the new babes who have joined their families.

Friends in the next state over sing praises of many of their flowers already up and ready to bloom. They are warmer than we are, so our daffodils aren’t quite ready to bloom, but as we travel through town, we can see tulips popping up, ready to open — how colorful and lovely.

As we age, we are constantly reminded, O Lord, God, of our transitory stay here on earth and Your eternal reign in heaven. We need a ‘dose of the eternal’ today, Lord. Give us a sense of our place before You as we seek Your will in Your Word as found in 1 Peter 1:24-25: “All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever.” Thank You, Lord, for Your promise.

Love, Mara
