MDT project proposed on U.S. Highway 87 between Great Falls and Carter

Montana Department of Transportation would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to reconstruct about nine miles of U.S. Highway 87 between Great Falls and Carter in Cascade and Chouteau counties.

The project begins at reference post 11 and extends north for nine miles, ending where the highway widens to 33 feet at reference post 20.

Proposed work includes earthwork, surfacing, drainage improvements and finishing with a seal and cover, commonly called chip seal, upgraded pavement markings and signage. The purpose of the project is to improve the safety and efficiency of the route.

The project is currently beyond the five-year funding plan and a construction date will be set when a funding package is in place. New right-of-way and relocation of utilities will be required. MDT staff will contact all potentially affected landowners prior to performing survey work on their land. Staff will again contact landowners prior to construction regarding property acquisition and temporary construction permits.
