Ponies, area athletes shine at Glasgow Top 10

The Havre High girls track team has a lot of talented runners, but the best might be sophomore Loy Waid, who captured another first-place finish at the Glasgow Top 10 meet Tuesday night.

Waid and her teammates made the trip to Glasgow for the annual North/East Top 10 meet, pitting the top athletes from Class A, Class B and Class C against each other.

Athletes qualify by being among the top 10 in their respective events and in all, more than 30 teams were in attendance.

For Waid, it was a stellar performance that started with a victory in the 400-meter dash as she posted a career-best time of 1:01.32. She also helped the Havre girls capture their two other first-place finishes, running on both the 400 and 1,600 relay teams. The Blue Pony girls won both races, finishing the short relay in 51.47 and the long relay in 4:21.25. To top it all off, Waid, competing in the triple jump for just the second time this season, jumped 32-05.25, another personal best, which was good enough for third place.

While the Pony girls are normally strong in the running events and they were again in Glasgow, HHS also placed two girls in the long jump and high jump in addition to Waid getting third in the triple jump. Senior Sarah Faber was fourth in the high jump (5-00), just ahead of teammate Jessa Chvilicek, who was fifth (4-10) and also sixth in the long jump (15-01). Grace Loftus was second in the long jump after jumping 15-05.

Rounding out a really strong showing for the Pony girls was Kadia Miller getting second in the 800 (2:29), Katie Wirtzberger finishing third in the 200 (27.76) and Chvilicek also taking fourth in the 100 (13.15).

Also competing at the meet was Harlem and Chinook and Sugarbeeters senior Megan Molyneaux continued an impressive season by winning the 200 (26.89) in addition to getting third in the 100 (13.13). Kourtney Hanson joined her on the podium, getting third in the 800 (2:30), as did Raynee Hasler who finished sixth for Chinook in the 3,200.

Yet, when it came to the distance events, on the girls side at least, L'Tia Lawrence dominated winning both. She ran the mile in 5:16 and also posted a time of 11:25 in the 3,200. Both times were career bests for the Harlem junior who is committed to play basketball for Montana State University-Northern.

In the boys top 10 meet, Havre had four individuals reach the podium, highlighted by Andrew Boucher, who was fourth in the 400 (52.75) for the Ponies and fifth in the 200 (24.11). He also helped Havre finish fifth in the 400-meter relay and sixth in the 1,600-meter relay.

The Ponies also got some production out of their distance runners after qualifying at least one runner for each event. Dylan Young took fourth in the 1,600 (4:59) just ahead of Noah Azure, also of Havre, who ran 5:00.29 (5th). Brad Cichosz of Harlem was the runner-up in the 1,600 after running it in 4:43. Trajan Hannum of Chinook managed to take third in the 800 (2:09). Chinook got a sixth-place finish in the shot put from Cord Schneider (43--11).

However, the best individual finish for the Havre boys came from Mason Rismon. The junior who has won the javelin throw in multiple meets this season, had his best toss of the season Tuesday night in Glasgow, throwing 161-11 for a personal best and a third-place finish.

Both Havre track teams will be back in action Saturday for the Havre Invite.
