Harlem legend Lyle Faulkinberry returning to the mat

The storied Harlem Wildcat wrestling program will have a new head coach this season. But, the man in charge will be a name everybody associated with the program knows well.

Longtime Harlem head coach Lyle Faulkinberry announced recently that he has decided to come out of retirement to take over the Harlem program.

At the end of the 2018-19 season, Joe Shupe, a longtime assistant to Faulkinberry, announced he was retiring from coaching. Shupe took over the program after Faulkinberry retired in 2015 after 28 seasons as the head coach.

Meanwhile, under Faulkinberry, the Wildcats enjoyed a ton of success in not only the Northern B-C Division, but at the state level as well. In just his last five years on the mat, Faulkinberry led more than 10 Wildcats to the podium at the state tournament.

Faulkinberry will begin as the new/old Harlem head coach when the 2019-20 wrestling season begins in November.
