Local athletes journey to State Special Olympics

Thirteen athletes, along with friends and family, loaded up the Blue Pony Express Tuesday afternoon before heading to the Special Olympics Montana State Summer Games in Great Falls.

All but one of the 14 local athletes who qualified in April's Great Northern Spring Games will be participating in the state games which will be ongoing through Friday.

More than 1,000 athletes will be competing in 11 different sports, according to the Special Olympics Montana website, at locations all around Great Falls including University of Providence, CM Russell High School and Great Falls High School.

Most of the 13 athletes from the Havre area are competing in multiple sports in the hopes of bringing home a state medal.
