Box Elder Class of 2019 graduates in pomp and ceremony

The 21-member Box Elder High School class of 2019 was honored Wednesday night during a commencement ceremony at the Box Elder High School Gymnasium.

Hundreds of attendees packed the room to watch as the Box Elder seniors received their diplomas and celebrated the conclusion of their high school careers.

The graduates entered the gymnasium one-by-one as the Haystack Singers, accompanied by Rep. Jonathan Windy Boy, D-Box Elder, performed an opening song. An opening prayer was recited by Francis Eagleman, and Box Elder English teacher Melanie Watson delivered a keynote address that offered a humorous, but heartfelt "dictionary definition" of each graduate.

After Watson's address, salutatorian Cylas Meyers and valedictorian Eve The Boy each gave emotional speeches praising their teachers, classmates and the Box Elder community.

Meyers and The Boy were each given multiple recognitions, including scholarships, for their academic excellence. Madison Wolf Chief and Kiya Morsette were also presented scholarships during the ceremony.

Watch for more graduations coverage in upcoming editions of the Havre Daily News, in print and online.
