Gopher receives Billy Award

The Stone Child College 2019 William O. Goggins Journalism Award - the Billy Award - was awarded to Tyrah Stone Gopher Friday, May 10, 2019 on Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation at the Stone Child College graduation ceremony.

Gopher received the award for her demonstrated promise in the field of writing.

The William O. Goggins Journalism Awards was established in 2007 with contributions from family and friends of William "Bill" Goggind.

The annual award is given in memory of Goggins, an accomplished journalist and Havre native who, with his family, spent many summers in Montana including family reunions in Beaver Creek Park and spending time in East Glacier, where the family also had deep connections.

His father, William "Turk" Goggins, had worked on the Going-to-the-Sun Road while a surveyor and engineer with he Montana Department of Transportation and the family lived in Babb at that time.

William O. Goggins, a former Deputy editor of WIRED Magazine and a creative journalist, collapsed in the 2006 San Francisco Marathon from a sudden fatal heart condition, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
