News you can use

Hello, God. It's me, Mara

Workmanship

You know, Lord, an occasion arose recently where “people watching” was the order of the day. Sitting in the waiting room we were waiting for our friend to be called in to see her doctor. You know, Lord, one really can combine knitting with waiting and watching: knit one, purl one, knit two together.

One patient is called in to see the doctor as a lady re-enters the waiting room, having just seen the doctor. Her head is bowed as if she has a heavy heart. Oops — a mistake made in knitting; now it must be unraveled and corrected.

A child and mother come out all smiles. They have been given a good report. Knit six, change color, cable next eight stitches. All is sunshine in their young lives but life goes on no matter if some folks are sad while some folks are happy.

“What are you knitting? I can’t make out the pattern from this side of the room; it really looks like a mess of strings to me, but I suppose you actually are following a pattern,” a lady asks, then smiles.

Lord, is there a lesson here? Do we see the underside of our personal tapestry, like the wrong side of knitting, while You, the giver of life, know us from before we were born and You truly do guide each moment of our lives and every color change — until our particular piece of life is woven into a work of art when seen from Your point of view? That’s totally amazing, Lord.

In Your word, Psalm 139: 13-15, we read in part: “You made all the delicate inner parts of my body, and knit them together in my mother’s womb … Your workmanship is marvelous.”

Our friend returned, all smiles, we could sing praises, thanking You for Your created work.

Love, Mara
