Waiting to see on vetoes

It has been over a month that I have been home from Helena and the Senate floor. Since then, we have had a number of bills that the governor vetoed but had originally passed the Senate and House be a 2/3 majority. This allows the opportunity for both houses to override the veto by a mail vote. There is a two-week turnaround on these voted bills, so we’re still waiting to see what happens.

I have been busy on the farm, doing catch-up around the place: dead batteries, low tires, dentist, physical and general clean-up that was neglected the past four months.

This past month was also taken up by a few meetings, most of which I attended to increase my general knowledge and information.

Early in the month, I attended Hill County Electric’s annual meeting. I had supported legislation that would benefit rural electric co-ops. I was fortunate enough to attend Amtrak’s 90-year Celebration of rail service to the Hi-Line in Cut Bank. This meeting brought in folks from the Hi-Line to Seattle and Chicago. A great amount of history was shared by many. Lastly, I attended an informational gathering in Havre on the opioid crisis. Opioids are a major health issue at this point in time. This legislative session, we dealt with a number of bills that had to do with this drug, along with others.

I was able to take in a couple of graduations, one being my grandson’s. It’s hard to express how proud a grandad can be. All four of our kids came home and attended the graduation, along with all the graduate’s cousins. A highlight for me was the following day when the whole group floated the Marias River with friends and other relatives. Twenty-seven people had great fun on the float, with the ages of participants varying from 2 to 72. Have a safe summer!
