Obituary - Esther Edna (Rosin) Schmidt

Esther Edna (Rosin) Schmidt's long-time wishes were granted when she was united with her husband of 63 years, Herbert Schmidt, and joining her maker on June 4, 2019.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of O'Connor Funeral Home, Great Falls, Montana.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, July 12, 2019, at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fairfield (Greenfield Bench) with burial of ashes following at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.

Esther was born at Fallon, Montana, March 6, 1926, the oldest daughter of Math and Kathrin (Siegle) Rosin. Her father was born in Hoffingstahl, South Russia, and mother was born in Walworth County, South Dakota. Esther joined older brother, Herbert, and younger siblings Lawrence and Emma Hodges. The family moved to Fairfield in 1937. After completing grade school at Greenfield, she graduated from Power High School. After graduation, she stayed home and helped on the farm and waited for her fiancé to return from his service in the Army, and they were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church on February 3, 1946. They remained loyal and active members of the parish throughout their life. To their union, they were blessed with a daughter, Florence Fay and followed 18 months later by a son, Harlan Larry, and 13 months later by a daughter, Betty Mae.

They bought a farm, had a dairy milking operation of 35-40 cows year round and 600 laying hens with eggs sold weekly to Super Save in Great Falls. Some of the crops they raised through the years were sugar beets, oats, barley, wheat and alfalfa hay. They lived on the farm for 47 years before selling it in 1993 and moving to Fairfield. In 2007, they sold their home in Fairfield and moved to the Skyline Retirement Lodge in Choteau. After the death of Herb in 2009, Esther later moved to the Beehive Home in Choteau, Rocky Mountain Care Center in Helena, and finished out her life back in her own community residing at the Benefis Teton Medical Center.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert; son-in-law Robert Armagost; step-grandson Kim Armagost; son-in-law Jim Clark; grandson Jim Clark Jr .; brother Herbert Rosin; sister Emma Hodges and numerous in-laws.

Esther is survived by her brother Lawrence (Delores) Rosin of Helena; daughter Florence Armagost of Grand Bay, AL; son Harlan (Sherril) Schmidt of Reno, NV; and daughter Betty Clark of Helena, MT. Also surviving are grandchildren Jenny (Justin) Lee and Ellie Rose, Gus and Preston of Choteau, MT; Dexin (Jennifer) Hensley and Faith, Sara and Will of Grand Bay, AL; Corey (Suzanne) Schmidt and Miles and Grady of Bakersfield, CA; Jamee (Roddy) Cameron and Ridge and Rayna of Townsend, MT; sisters-in-law Cheri Schmidt of Fairfield; Joan Schmidt and Carol Schmidt of Great Falls, MT.
