Gas leak prompts Highland Park evacuations, road closures

Two members of Havre Fire Department speak with each other as a utilities crew takes a rest after a gas leak Thursday near Highland Park Early Primary School in Havre. Multiple units from Havre Fire and Police were on the scene blocking off roads around the school, and utilities workers were working in conjunction with the fire department to fix the leak.

12:40 p.m. — NorthWestern Energy announced that the area where the gas line was broken in Highland Park near Highland Park Early Primary School is isolated and repairs are being made. The fire department was released from the scene. The strong natural gas odor will dissipate now.

11:45 a.m. — Havre Public Schools announced that the summer lunch program and all activities at Highland Park Early Primary School were cancelled today due to a gas leak.
