Gas leak leads to evacuation in Highland Park

Two members of Havre Fire Department speak with each other as a utilities crew takes a rest after a gas leak caused evacuations and street closures Thursday near Highland Park Early Primary School in Havre. Multiple units from Havre Fire and Police were on the scene blocking off roads around the school, while NorthWestern Energy crews were working to fix the leak.

Multiple units from Havre Fire Department and Police Department were on the scene of a gas leak near Highland Park Early Primary School before 10 a.m. Thursday, leading to the evacuation of at least two homes next to the school as NorthWestern Energy employees worked to repair the leak.

NorthWestern Energy spokeswoman Jo Dee Black said Tbursday the leak was caused when some contractors, who were not doing work for NorthWestern, hit a line near the north side of Highland Park Early Primary.
