Independence Day celebration set in Hays

The Martin family of Hays is once again hosting a celebration for Independence Day at their store.

Events for all ages are scheduled at the store for Thursday.

“Whether you want to participate in a full day of events or just bring your lawn chairs and enjoy watching, it’s up to you,” a release announcing the event said.

The first event Thursday morning is a horseshoe tournament starting at 8 with children’s games set to start at 11 a.m.

The activities really get rolling at 2 p.m. with a community barbecue, mud volleyball and a mud tug-of-war.

The Independence Fitness Challenge, which requires screening and signing a waiver, starts at 3 p.m.

It includes 16 obstacles and has three categories, a fun run for children; a novice men and women 13 and older; and advanced men and women 18 and older.

Cash prizes will be awarded in the novice and advanced categories.

Band Flansburg will be playing music at the event, as well, and it wraps up with the fireworks display the Martin family has hosted for more than 30 years.

People with questions are invited to call Sheila Martin at 390-0322.

“Once again, this is a day full of fun events, so gather up your family and lawn chairs and come enjoy the day out in Hays at the Martin residence,” the release said.
