You Knew Me When returns to perform at Sounds on the Square Aug. 7

From You Knew Me When

A nationally touring duo from Colorado is returning to Havre Aug. 7 to perform at Sounds on the Square.

Cie and Karisa Hoover's You Knew Me When was featured in last year's Sounds on the Square August lineup and are in the summer concert series again this year.

The husband and wife duo lived and worked in Nashville, Tennessee - she as a tenured music teacher for Nashville Public Schools and he as a music industry professional working as the global event manager for one of the largest guitar companies in the world ... a comfortable and respected life by any account.

They both quit those jobs, selling a vast amount of their worldly belongings, and set out on the road to tour and share their own music full time. For six and a half non-stop years that was the life of Cie and Karisa Hoover of the folk-rock duo You Knew Me When.

Having lived out of a teardrop camper and camper van for that time period, traveling to 49 of the 50 states and parts of Canada, and sometimes performing over 200 shows per year, the duo recognized the need to find balance in their daily lives and began to seek out ways to rediscover what it meant to have a home-life.

That rediscovery lead them to southwestern Colorado and to Ouray, where the duo have been redefining their approach to music and touring.

This new chapter includes Karisa Hoover as the new K-12 music and choral teacher for Ouray School and has allowed Cie Hoover to rediscover his passion for visual art along with continued songwriting.

You Knew Me When will be touring throughout the summer, sharing some of their favorite songs from their three previously released studio albums. The duo will also be unveiling some new mountain inspired songs from their upcoming 2019 album release.

They will perform at Sounds on the Square in Havre's Town Square Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 6 p.m. The event is free.

Outfitted with an array of instruments, You Knew Me When are a folk-rock duo that present a full band sound. While blending their vocals, Karisa Hoover provides the piano, ukulele, glockenspiel and percussive elements, as Cie Hoover supplies the guitar and other rhythmic nuances. The cumulative result is a musical style and live show that blends a singer-songwriter soul with a rock 'n' roll mentality.

You Knew Me When have released one EP and three studio albums to date, including their latest release "Into the Looking Glass," and continue to write and find musical inspiration in the mountains.
