Frontier Football Media Day set for Tuesday in Great Falls

The start of the 2019 college football season is quickly approaching, and around these parts, that means Frontier Conference football.

And to get Frontier fans ready for the upcoming season, the league will hold its annual Frontier Conference Football Media Day Tuesday in Great Falls.

All eight Frontier coaches will be in attendance, including Montana State University-Northern second-year head coach Andrew Rolin. For the second straight year, the media day will also feature two first-year head coaches, including new Carroll College head coach Troy Purcell. The former Havre Blue Pony head man is taking the helm from NAIA Hall of Famer Mike Van Diest, who retired last spring. Defending Frontier champion Rocky Mountain College also has a new head coach in Chris Strutzriem, who took over for Jason Petrino, who left RMC for an NCAA FCS job at Southern Illinois.

All eight league coaches will speak at Media Day, as will Frontier Conference Commissioner Kent Paulson. The event will also feature the release of the 2019 Frontier Football Preseason Coaches Poll.

The Lights, who finished 1-10 overall last season, and 0-10 in the Frontier, are among the first Frontier squads to play in 2019. Northern opens its season Aug. 31 at Arizona Christian in Phoenix. The first Frontier game will also be held that Saturday, with Eastern Oregon paying a visit to the College of Idaho. Northern opens league play Sept. 7 at RMC.

The Frontier Media Day is slated for Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Great Falls. The annual event also kicks off the Montana Coaches Association Clinic. The Frontier Media Day will also be streamed live on the Frontier Conference Facebook Page.
