Coalition continues planning for suicide awareness walk

The Hill County Suicide Awareness Coalition discussed its upcoming fifth annual Suicide Awareness Walk during a meeting Monday evening

The walk is Thursday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. starting at the Montana State University-Northern clock tower on the campus quad.  

“We have it on campus, so everything that we do, students will be invited to be a part of and the community will be too,” Suicide Awareness Coalition Chair Amber Spring said.

Pre-event activities will begin at 6:30 p.m. featuring free T-shirts till they run out, music, suicide awareness honor beads, Gary & Leo’s Fresh Foods donating water, and more activities including speakers and public comment.

Also, Suicide Awareness Coalition member Mark Cichosz will present the play he wrote, “It’s Time,” following the the walk

The theme for this year is “It’s Time! To ask. To Listen. To Support.”

 “It’s personal for people,” Spring said.

The coalition is holding a fundraiser for the walk Thursday, Crunch for a Cause at Taco John’s. The restaurant will donate 50 percent of the price of purchase’s to the Hill County Suicide Awareness Coalition from 5 to 7 p.m. if people say they are donating to the walk.

Other fundraisers will be held closer to the walk such as a pint fundraiser presented by all three local breweries in Havre.

Cichosz said that, so far, 29 businesses and seven families have agreed to help sponsor the event.
