Second Street, Third Avenue intersection partially blocked for repairs

Vehicles can still use intersection

A part of the intersection of Second Street and Third Avenue has been blocked off due to street repair, Havre Public Works Director Dave Peterson said.

He said the intersection was the location where Havre would put up its annual Christmas Tree. But because the city no longer displays a tree at that location - the annual Christmas tree lighting is now done in Havre's Town Square - the spot where the tree had been put up each year had been patched with asphalt.

The asphalt has deteriorated over the years, and the city is cutting out the section and filling it back in with concrete to match the rest of the road.

It will take up to a week for the concrete to dry and until then the section of the street will be blocked off to prevent people from driving over it, Peterson said. People should be able to drive around the area where construction is being done and no detour is needed.

He added that the majority of the street work the city had planned to have completed this year has already been done, although the city may be doing some chip-seal work on a few roads before winter.
