Hi-Line Football Roundup: Longhorns, Pioneers open with a bang

The Fort Benton Longhorns started their season off with a bang. The Longhorns would play Ennis in a heavily one-sided game, mowing down the Mustangs 61-12 Friday night.

Fort Benton opened the first quarter with six points from a one-yard rushing touchdown by Hayden Axtman but miss the extra point.

Fort Benton then took off in the second quarter with a 34-yard touchdown run by Garett Diekhans but fail the conversion. Then, Jace Thompson would make a one-yard run into the endzone but missing the extra point. Diekhans would score another six for the Longhorns and Thompson would capitalize as well, ending the half with Fort Benton up 39-0.

The second half kicked off with Fort Benton adding 16 to their score from multiple runs by Thompson and two successful conversions, putting them up 55-6 at the end of the third quarter.

Fort Benton would end the game with a rushing score by Colter Ball and fail the conversion, adding another six to the Longhorns' already high score.

In the end, the Longhorns would overwhelm Ennis in their season opener. Ennis could only respond with two touchdowns and couldn't make plays where they were needed most.

The Longhorns look to have another successful win when they play Hays-Lodge Pole this Friday at 7.

Park City 56, Chinook 24

The Chinook Sugarbeeters started off their season a little rocky, losing to Park City Saturday afternoon in Chinook.

Chinook would struggle the first quarter, but then score eight points in the second quarter. Their first score would be a Toby Niederegger 36-yard pass from Brenton Elliot, leading to a Sam Dumas run for the two-point conversion. The Sugarbeeters would end the first half trailing Park City 28-8.

The Sugarbeeters would pick up in the second half, scoring 16 points. Their second score of the night was a Niederegger 20-yard pass from Sam Dumas, then a Niederegger pass from Elliot for another successful conversion. Chinook's final score of the night would be a Niederegger 41-yard run to the endzone, followed by, once again, another successful conversion.

In the end, the Beeters would fall to Park City by a 32-point deficit. Chinook looks to have a better game when they play Centerville this Saturday at 1.

Big Sandy 44, Jordan 28

Big Sandy football kicked off their season with a win against Jordan in a Six-Man Contest Friday night in Big Sandy.

The Pioneers' first quarter gave them a good start. Kade Strutz ran 14-yards into the endzone to put Big Sandy up 6-0, then Strutz would score a 37-yard TD and a successful conversion after the Jordan Mustangs scored a TD. Jordan would again score, making it 14-6 going into the second quarter.

The Pioneers would capitalize the second quarter, with Strutz making a 16-yard rushing TD to make it 20-12 at the end of the first half.

The second half saw a lot of productivity for Big Sandy. Brock Proulx would score on a 47-yard run and Strutz would again find the endzone on a successful two-point conversion. Jordan responded with a score of their own, as well as a conversion. The Pioneers' would counter with another rushing TD from Strutz and a conversion, ending the third quarter with a 36-20 score.

Strutz would rush 23 yards to the endzone, with another conversion, to put Big Sandy up 44-20. Jordan made one last score and conversion, but in the end, the Pioneers' took home the win 44-28.

Big Sandy would end the game with 18 first downs, 50 carries for 376 yards, 12 third-down conversions, eight fourth-down conversions, 27 tackles, three sacks for a loss of 11 yards, and a time of possession totaling 06:34:41.

The Pioneers had a fantastic game and will look to get another win when they play North Star Friday night at 7 p.m.

Chester-Joplin-Inverness didn't start with the season they were hoping for. CJI would play a rough game against Centerville, coming up short. Friday night.

The Hawks would open the first half with no points, ending it down 16-0.

They would pick up some points in the second half. The Hawks scored six in the third quarter, then 14 in the fourth, ending the game with 20 points.

Centerville would control most of the game and CJI would fall 44-20.

The Hawks look to get a win against Cascade this Friday at 7.

The North Star Knights also didn't have the season opener they were hoping for.

The Knights would play a tough game against Froid-Lake Saturday, scoring only one touchdown, a Jaden Sargent 14-yard pass from Garret Spicher and a missed extra point in the second quarter.

The rest of the game was capitalized on by the Redhawks, who would beat North Star 32-6.

The Knights look to get a win against Big Sandy this Saturday at 1.

Bainville 83, Box Elder 31

Box Elder didn't have the game the Bears were looking to have against Bainville Saturday afternoon.

The Bears played with all the effort they had, scoring 31 points at the end of the game, but it wasn't enough in the end, as Bainville would win the game by a 52-point deficit.

The Bears look to win against Geraldine/Highwood this Saturday at 1.

HLP 52, Rocky Boy 26

The Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds had a good game against Rocky Boy, pulling a capitalizing win over the Northern Stars, 52-26 in 8-man Northern C action last Friday night.

Rocky Boy will look to win against Choteau this Friday at 7 p.m.

HLP will look to find another win against Fort Benton this Friday at 7 p.m,.
