Havre High spikers fight to a Northeast A split on the road

The Havre High volleyball team had some ups and downs this weekend on the road.

The Ponies lost to the Glendive Lady Devils last Friday evening in a 3-0 sweep in Glendive, by scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 25-20. The Ponies bounced back Saturday and swept the Miles City Cowgirls 25-15, 25-15 and 25-22 in Miles City.

Havre High head coach Tamecia Jarvis was looking for more from her team against Glendive.

"We didn't play to our full potential," said Jarvis. "We didn't play our game. We let them control the match the whole time."

The Lady Devils were a very tough conference opponent in the Northeast A. Even so, the Ponies fought till the very end and Glendive held them to a minimum of 19-points throughout the match.

Despite the loss, the Ponies put up some good numbers against the Lady Devils.

Seniors Sam Oliver and Peyton Brown tied the lead for aces with two, senior Cassidy Acor racked up nine kills and one-and-a-half blocks, Brown also put up 22 assists and Oliver also led the team in digs with 15.

The Blue Ponies will get a chance to beat the Lady Devils in a rematch this Saturday in Havre.

After last Friday's loss, the Blue Pony spikers bounced back against Miles City. Havre dominated the Cowgirls in each set, holding Miles City to a max of 22 points throughout the match.

Jarvis was satisfied with her team's work in Miles City.

"That was a better night for us," Jarvis said. "After losing to Dawson (Glendive), I think the girls really stepped up and made sure they took acre of the things that we lacked the day before."

The Havre squad put up some great stats against the Cowgirls.

Senior Katelyn Maloughney led Havre with three aces, senior Jessa Chvilicek led in kills with 11 and one-and-a-half blocks, senior Peyton Brown racked up 30 assists and senior Sam Oliver led the squad with 15 digs.

The Blue Pony spikers will have a home-game rematch against the Cowgirls soon and Havre will look to dominate Miles City both on Miles City's court and in the Havre High Gymnasium.

Havre's next opponent on the schedule is a rematch against Conrad. The Ponies swept Conrad the last time they met in the Havre High Gymnasium and HHS will look to also sweep the Cowgirls on Conrad's home-court. Havre hits the court against the Cowgirls for a rematch Thursday at 4 p.m. Then, the Ponies face the Glendive Lady Devils Saturday at 1 for a rematch in the Havre High Gymnasium.
