MSU-N Rodeo teams finish strong

It was a busy finish to the fall Big Sky Region rodeo schedule for the Montana State University-Northern rodeo teams.

It was also an exciting one.

At the Montana Western Rodeo late last month, the Lights and Skylights were outstanding.

The Northern women won the UM-W Rodeo #1 with 260 points, while the Lights were second that night.

Northern's Mikenna Schauer won the women's All-Around title in the rodeo, while Liam Christianson was fourth in the men's All-Around. Schauer captured the breakaway roping title during the event with a 5.6, while also fishing in sixth place in the goat tying. Schauer and Christianson also teamed up for a fourth-place finish in the team roping, while Christianson also placed sixth in the tie-down roping. Liam Marshall finished fourth for the Lights in the bareback riding.

Not to be outdone, Northern's Kolby Kittson won the saddle bronc riding with 124 points, while James Sjogren was fifth for the Lights.

The Skylights continued their strong performance by winning the UM-W Rodeo #2 the next night in Dillon, with 375 points. Jayne Keeley was the leader for Northern, finishing second in the women's All-Around race. Keeley finished second in barrel racing and third in goat tying on an outstanding performance. Schauer also won the breakaway title in the event with a 5.5.

On the men's side, Clay and Ty Doney teamed up to place third in team roping, while Marshall finished fourth in bareback riding.

The Lights and Skylights, of head coach Doug Kallenberger are now off for the winter but will resume their Big Sky Region schedule April 2 at the Montana State Rodeo in Bozeman.
