Legends for Lights features local stars

The NLASF Legends for Lights weekend has become one of the proudest traditions that Montana State University-Northern is involved with. The pheasant hunt, and all the other activities surrounding the weekend, have certainly become a time honored tradition now.

The event, which got its start thanks to NFL and Havre/Chinook legend Mike Tilleman, is three days of fun for all involved, and this year’s event, which takes place this weekend, will be no different.

The 2019 Legends For Lights weekend will also have even more local flare.

Tilleman, who played for Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons during his NFL career, will now be joined in the hunt by another Havre football legend. Former Blue Pony, University of Montana and NFL Pro Bowler Marc Mariani will also be a part of the festivities this weekend.

Mariani officially retired from the NFL before the start of the 2018 season. Before that, he played for the Tennessee Titans in two different stints, and the Chicago Bears during his seven-year NFL career.

Another local product is also back for the Legends for Lights. Former Chester and Carroll College star Casey Fitzsimmons will be a part of the event. Fitzsimmons played for the Detroit Lions 2003-2009, and is an NAIA Hall of Fame member.

Fans will also surely recognize the name Jeff Backus at this weekend’s event. Backus was a star OL for the Lions from 2001 to 2013 and will eventually be enshrined in the Hall of Fame. Backus played his collegiate days at Michigan where he was an All-American and a first-round draft pick.

The list of attendees this weekend also includes, Ron Acks (Packers Patriots, Falcons), Billy Barnes, who was a three-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl champion in 1960, Nick Bebout (Falcons, Seahawks, Redskins), Elmer Collett (49ers, Colts), Barry Dean (NHL), Mike Donohoe (Falcons, Packers), Sandy Durko (Bengals, Patriots), 1969 Super Bowl champion Dale Hackbart, Gus Hollomon (Broncos, Jets), Ken Jolly (Chiefs), Russ Jensen (Raiders, Chargers), Kent Kramer (49ers, Saints, Vikings, Eagles), Kyle Kramer (Browns), Art Kuehn (Seahawks, Patriots), eight-time Pro Bowlers with the Falcons and Colts, George Kunz, Chuck Logan (Steelers, Cardinals), Jim Miller (Falcons), three-time NHL All-Star Geoff Sanderson, Lonnie Warwick (Vikings, Falcons), John Zook (Falcons, Cardinals) and former University of Montana OL Thatcher Szalay (Bengals, Ravens Seahawks).

The Legends for Lights festivities begin tonight, with a big day planned for Friday, including a Trap Shoot at Havre Trap Club and the Legends autograph signing at the Boys Girls Club from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
