Pony spikers play Cowgirls, before rematch with Glendive

The Havre High volleyball team has had a good season so far, proving it has what it takes to make a deep playoff run and find more success.

But before that, the Ponies will have rematches against two familiar opponents, the Conrad Cowgirls and the Glendive Red Devils.

Havre's first match of the week is today against the Cowgirls and Havre High head coach Tamecia Jarvis is ready for the road-match against Conrad.

"I think Conrad will be good," said Jarvis. "We can use that game to work on some things that we need to get better at. We can figure out some things that we need to do differently for the Dawson game. We can use those is Conrad."

Last time the Ponies and the Cowgirls met, Havre swept Conrad 3-0, by set scores of 25-13, 25-11 and 25-11. The Blue Ponies consistency in the match against the Cowgirls was a key factor in defeating them. On top of that, the stats Havre put up against Conrad give great promise for the rematch.

The Blue Pony spikers racked up eight aces, 26 kills, 17 assists, two blocks and 10 digs. The quick and efficient game for Havre kept the Cowgirls at bay. If the Ponies repeat and excel their previous performance against Conrad, the match win will be in their sights.

Seniors Jessa Chvilicek and Peyton Brown were standout players in the last match against the Cowgirls. Chvilicek had 12 kills and one-and-a-half blocks, while Brown had 16 assists, half-a-block and two digs. Though the stats may not look that impressive, the showcase against Conrad ended in a victory and another win on the Ponies' record.

The key aspect in the rematch against the Cowgirls for Havre is to stay consistent and keep Conrad at bay.

After the road game against Conrad, the Blue Ponies will get another rematch at home against the only Class A team that has defeated them - the Glendive Red Devils.

The match against Glendive last Thursday did not end in the way the Blue Ponies wanted it too. Havre was swept by the Lady Devils 3-0, the set scores 25-19, 25-22 and 25-20. A conference loss against Glendive dropped them to second place in the Northeastern A, so a victory in the rematch will be key to stay in the race for the top spot in the conference.

Jarvis is looking for her team to fix their past mistakes against the Red Devils in the Havre High Gymnasium.

"For the Dawson game, we're ready to be on our home court," said Jarvis. "I think we'll have a slight advantage in that sense and we're just focusing on what we need to do to beat them this weekend."

It will be a close and heated game between the two teams. The Red Devils were a team that had a strong attack on their home court. Havre did have some good defensive plays, though. The Ponies put up three blocks and 53 digs in the back-and-forth game against Glendive.

Even though Havre lost the road game against the Red Devils, they still did not let Glendive win easily. The Blue Ponies were kept to a minimum of 19 points throughout the match. Havre is a tough team to play and the Lady Devils got a taste of what the Ponies have.

There will definitely be a different atmosphere for Glendive when the Red Devils come up to the Havre High Gymnasium. The Ponies have proved their dominance on their home-court against Class A teams and will look to continue that trend. Havre's fans also know how to make some noise in the stands and have a lot of support for their Ponies. Glendive will have to keep their heads together to shake off the intense Havre team in the Havre High gymnasium.

The rematch against the Lady Devils and the Blue Ponies will be a big one. Whichever team comes out on top will have the advantage in the conference. If Havre falls in the match, they will fall behind in the Northeast A. But, if the Ponies win, they will have a good stance in the conference and a good spot in the postseason.

Havre heads to its road game against the Conrad Cowgirls today at 4 in Conrad. Then, the Blue Pony spikers look to get revenge against the Glendive Red Devils Saturday at 1 p.m. inside the Havre High gymnasium.
