Pony spikers aim to corral Miles City for a second time

The Havre High volleyball team is ready for another weekend of Northeast A action after getting two big wins against Glendive last week. The Ponies will face another conference opponent Saturday in the Miles City Cowgirls.

Havre will take on Miles City in the Havre High Gymnasium for an exciting rematch between the teams. Home games for the Blue Pony spikers are always a sight to see and the girls will look to have an advantage in the Northeast A with another win over the Cowgirls.

Havre High head coach Tamecia Jarvis and her team will look to stay consistent, play hard and have fun in the game against Miles City.

The last time the Ponies and Cowgirls met was Oct. 4 when Havre went down to play Miles City in an away-game. The Ponies swept the Cowgirls 3-0, with set scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-22. Conference games for HHS have always been competitive and intense.

Offensively, the Ponies put up a powerful performance against Miles City last time. The Ponies put up 11 aces, 35 kills and 32 assists in the game against the Cowgirls. Defensively, Havre had three blocks and 51 digs in the match at Miles City.

Players like Havre seniors Jessa Chvilicek and Cassidy Acor will be key offensive attackers in the match. Chvilicek and Acor combined for 18 kills and 2.5 blocks against Miles City in the first match.

But the two seniors have another peer to help them with their offensive strikes, senior setter Peyton Brown. In the last match against the Cowgirls, Brown racked up 30 assists for the Ponies.

The Ponies' senior class has been a force overall this season. Against Glendive last Saturday senior Katelyn Maloughney made key plays for the Havre club and totaled two aces and 17 digs to help the Blue Ponies pull off an outstanding victory over the Lady Devils.

Miles City put up a good fight in its last match against Havre. After the first two sets ended in the same result, the Cowgirls almost pulled off a win in the third set, but the Ponies managed to escape with a 25-22 win in the set. Miles City's determination and tenacity will test HHS to see if the club can stay consistent with its previous showcase.

Luckily for Havre, the team has proven to stay consistent in rematches against teams it has won against previously. The Ponies have taken down Browning and Conrad in rematches so far. Havre has not shied away from going all out in every game, especially rematches. It will be a tough game for Miles City, as the Blue Ponies will be fighting with everything they can to stay ahead in the Northeastern A.

The conference matchup between the Havre Blue Ponies and the Miles City Cowgirls takes the court Saturday at 1 p.m. in the HHS gymnasium.
