SATURDAY LOCAL FOOTBALL: Ponies prevail in playoff opener

The Havre Blue Ponies scored in the final minute to beat the Lewistown Eagles, 14-3 in the first round of the Class A playoffs Saturday at Blue Ponies Stadium. Trailing 13-8 with under three minutes left, Havre drove down and Mason Dionne ran in from two yards out to lift the Ponies to their first playoff win in four years. Havre (5-4), wil l travel to Southwest A champion Dillon for a quarterfinal game next Saturday.

Meanwhile, in Big Sandy, the top-seeded Big Sandy Pioneers won their Six-Man playoff opener, 51-16 over Richey-Lambert in Big Sandy. The Pioneers (10-0) host Roy-Winifred next Saturday. In another Six-Man game, North Star fell at Jordan, 51-16.

In the opening round of the Class C playoffs, Fort Benton demolished Culbertson, 62-0 in Fort Benton. The Longhorns (10-0) host Park City Saturday in the quartyerfinals.
