Hi-Line Athlete Profile: Jessa Chvilicek, HHS Volleyball

The Skylights are Chili's future; The Blue Ponies and the Eastern A volleyball tourney is now

After signing with MSU-N volleyball last week, Jessa Chvilicek is ready to help the Ponies reach state

With the Eastern A divisional volleyball tournament getting underway today onto the Havre High Gymnasium, many Eastern A teams are excited to step in the court and claim a spot at state. For the Havre Blue Ponies, the senior class is ready to make some noise, too.

And many of those seniors have done a lot to help the team get this far and are ready to give even more. But one Havre senior who is looking forward to the tournament and her future, as well, is Jessa Chvilicek.

Chvilicek has been involved with volleyball since she was in sixth grade. She also plays basketball and runs track and field, too. Since sixth grade, volleyball, along with her other sports, has stuck with her and given her many opportunities to shine.

Now, as a senior for the Blue Pony spikers Chvilicek has been one of Havre's best on the court.

So far this season Chvilicek has racked up more than 67 kills and more than 21 blocks. On top of that, her intellect and intensity on the court is remarkable. The passion Chvilicek carries with her has left many lasting impressions on the Blue Pony squad.

When it comes to the divisional tournament today, Chvilicek is ready for her and the team to shine.

"I think we have an actual chance of doing really good," Chvilicek said. "If the team dynamics and all the attitudes are good, I think we can win it."

There is no doubt that Chvilicek is fired up about the competition. After all, the fun of the game is just as important as the competitive part. Chvilicek's, good spirit and attitude are staples in her character. She enjoys playing the game and watching her fellow teammates compete.

On top of that, Chvilicek will not be done with volleyball after her time at Havre High. The three-sport standout will be heading to the Montana State University-Northern Skylight's volleyball team next year. Chvilicek officially signed her NAIA letter of intent last Friday, and there is a lot of excitement for the Northern program.

MSU-N head coach Jerry Wagner was ecstatic to bring another Blue Pony prospect onto the Northern scene. After all, the last Havre player to be on the Skylights was Holly Cartwright.

"I'm happy for my team," said Wagner. "We're getting another outstanding teammate and it's going to add, immediately, what we're trying to do athletically, communitywise and personwise. We got some great people on the team and I couldn't be prouder to have Jessa on board."

MSU-Northern will be getting a great player in Chvilicek, who has been praised continuously throughout the season as a star offensive attacker for the Ponies.

Not only were Wagner and Chvilicek happy about her future, but so were the many peers and her parents.

Throughout the signing day process Jessa's parents, Steve and Ann Marie Chivilicek were smiling and chatting with those who came. Jessa's parents are also Northern Alumni. Chvilicek's peers were chanting her name for some time before the signing.

So, when the volleyball season comes to an end, it will be a bittersweet moment for Chvilicek and Havre.

Chvilicek is the fourth signee for Wagner's 2020 recruiting class and she has many great attributes that will help lead the Ponies, and soon Northern, to success. When Chvilicek and Wagner shook hands, fans from both Havre and MSU-N knew that things were looking up in the future.

And today, Chvilicek and the Blue Ponies will get back on the court, playing against the Hardin Bulldogs at 1:30 in the Havre High Gymnasium. But before the tournament kicks off, the Havre Daily News caught up with the three-sport standout for five questions.

HDN: If it were up to you, who would you choose as teammates for a three-on-three volleyball match?

Chvilicek: "I would take Peyton Brown and Katelyn Maloughney because they work really hard and they've got good attitudes."

HDN: What are your goals at Northern both athletically and academically?

Chvilicek: "Academically, I want to have a good GPA and then in sports, I want to play my best and do the best I can for the team."

HDN: What are your hobbies outside of your sports?

Chvilicek: "I like to just hang out with friends and work on other sports when I'm not in a sport."

HDN: How would you like to finish your Havre High School career?

Chvilicek: "I would like to go to state. That'd be the main thing, just going to state would be cool. We don't have to win it, just going would be nice."

HDN: What's your favorite thing about the game of volleyball?

Chvilicek: "I like the feeling of getting a good kill or a nice serve. The feeling of it is sweet."
