Packing party set Tuesday for Operation Christmas Child

People have an opportunity in Havre Tuesday to spread some Christmas cheer to children around the world.

An Operation Christmas Child shoebox packing party is set for Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Havre Community Alliance Church at 925 Eighth Street.

The event will start off will start off with a chili and soup supper and people are encouraged to bring a pot of chili, soup, cornbread, crackers and dessert to share and beverages will be provided. 

“People can bring items to pack into shoe boxes,” Collection Center Coordinator Marit Ita said.

She said people can learn how to pack a shoe box on Operation Christmas Child’s website at https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/pack-a-shoe-box .

On the event’s Facebook page it said, people coming to the event should bring $9 for each shoe box to help cover any project expenses such as shipping the boxes.

The page added that there is a need of donated items such as school supplies, hygiene items and toys for boys and girls between the ages of 2 to 4, 5 to 9 and 10 to 14 years old.

People donating items can drop them off at the Havre Community Alliance Church during Operation Christmas Child National Collection week Nov. 18-25. The hours are:

Monday, Nov. 18,10 a.m. to  noon, 6 to 8 p.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 19, 10 a.m. to noon, 6 to 8 p.m.

Wednesday, Nov. 20, 10 a.m. to noon, 6 to 8 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 21: 10 a.m. to noon, 6 to 8 p.m.

Friday, Nov. 22: 10 a.m. to noon, 6 to 8 p.m.

Sat, Nov. 23: 10 a.m. to noon

Sun, Nov. 24: 10 a.m.  to noon, 6 to 8 p.m

Mon, Nov. 25: 10 a.m. to  noon

Community Alliance Church has served as a  drop-off location for Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes during the third week of November every year for almost 20 years, Ita said.

She added that last year, people and churches in Havre, Big Sandy, Turner, Malta, Kremlin, Gilford and Chinook donated 425 boxes from.

“People need to know that when someone packs a simple box full gifts, children in need around the world are blessed,” she said. “Parents often use the project to teach their kids about giving. Churches and groups of all sizes collect boxes from their communities.”
