Meeting set Monday on Oakwood Village project

A public meeting has been set to discuss the Oakwood Village project Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Havre City Hall, just prior to the Havre City Council’s regular meeting.

Affiliated Developers Inc., a Michigan nonprofit corporation, announced last year the company was looking to purchase Oakwood Village.

Havre Mayor Tim Solomon said this morning that the meeting is an open hearing to gather input from the public about the project. He added that the company has gone down different routes for funding sources for the project and are pursuing getting additional tax credits for the project.

Havre City Clerk and Financial Director Doug Kaercher said that one of the requirements for pursuing tax credits is that the company has to hold a number of public hearings. He added that this meeting is not connected with City Council.

Oakwood Village is a 60-unit, a low-income residence and has not been significantly updated since its construction in 1979.

The large renovations include a potential partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of the Hi-Line which would possibly construct a second location for the Boys & Girls Club in a new building on the property.

Last November, Affiliated Developers Inc. received $3,881,250 in tax credits from the state for acquisition and rehabilitation of Oakwood Village.

Affiliated Developers also looked to purchase Havre Eagles Manor last year, but announced in October of last year the company was no longer pursuing the project.
