Former Havre High four-time state champion, and Purdue sophomore Parker Filius wrestles North Dakota State's Sawyer Degen last week in a dual in Fargo, North Dakota. Degen, from Belgrade, was also a four-time state champ, while Filius won their meeting 7-4.

Now in his second varsity season at NCAA Division I Purdue, former Havre Blue Pony great Parker Filius is off to an outstanding start.

Filius, who wrestles at 141 pounds for the Boilermakers this season, is 6-1 thus far on the year, and just recently beat former Belgrade Panther star Sawyer Degen, 7-4 in a dual at North Dakota State. Degen and Filius are both former four-time Class A state champions, though Filius had only competed against Degen's older brother, Jarrett, while they were in high school.

Filius started his red-shirt sophomore season with an outstanding third-place finish at the Michigan State Open last month. He also went 3-0 at the Journeyman Duals art 141, including a big win over Arizona State's Navonte Demison.

Filius wrestled at 149 pounds for the Boilermakers as a red-shirt freshman, and was the only member of the team, to start every dual. His highlights from a year ago included winning the B-Draw title at the Journeyman Collegiate Classic and placing sixth at the Princeton Open.

Filius is currently un-ranked at 141 pounds, but if things keep trending the way they've started this season, that will change for the former Havre High star

Purdue, currently ranked 25th in the NCAA Coaches Poll, continues its season at this weekend Boilermaker Duals in Indianapolis.
