RezQ Dogs holding Pizza Hut fundraiser Thursday

RezQ Dogs is holding a fundraiser at Pizza Hut all day Thursday, continuing it’s Helping Every Animal Related To Safety — HEARTS — campaign to raise money for RezQ Dogs operations and construction costs for its new property.

RezQ Dogs officially became a nonprofit in 2010, on Fort Belknap Indian Reservation and works to rescue stray or abandoned dogs primarily on Fort Belknap and the Rocky Boy’s Indian reservations. The organization has partnered with the Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy animal control as well as Havre’s Animal Shelter to save more than 3,000 dogs over the years. The organization has also provided a variety of other services, such as free and low-cost spay and neuter clinics and vaccine clinics.

In October of this year, RezQ Dogs purchased a new property on River Road a few miles outside of Havre to house its operations. The new location will replace its location on Fort Belknap near Dodson.

The main reason RezQ Dogs needed to move to a new location was because of a constant flooding issue it was having on their property.

RezQ Dogs Co-founder Anita Wilke said they have a lot of work to do on the new location before it is ready to move in, but the new property should allow for RezQ Dogs to expand serves and better serve the community. She added that they should be able to move into the new property before Christmas of this year.

Some of the work they are focusing on now is installing a septic tank, power lines, fencing and a shelter belt, she said.

Customers paying for a dine-in or carry-out order at Havre’s Pizza Hut Thursday can mention the RezQ Dogs fundraiser, and 20 percent of the purchase price will go to the organization’s account.
