Fort Benton's Aspen Giese drives the ball during a District 9C game against North Star last Saturday in Rudyard.

The Holiday Break is already here, even though the high school girls basketball season seemingly just got started. Still, before teams broke for the holidays last week was a busy and exciting one.

Last Friday night saw the beginning of a full slate of District 9C games, including Fort Benton taking down Turner 72-43 in a key matchup. McKenzie Clark led three Longhorns in double figures with 19 points, while Brooke Reed scored 14 for the Tornadoes.

North Star got its week started with a key win as well. The Knights went on the road and beat Hays-Lodge Pole 62-42 behind 21 points from Laynie Sattoriva. Tahtianna Morgan scored 15 for the Thunderbirds.

Chinook was a winner Friday night, handling Big Sandy 47-34 in Chinook. Allison Powell and Jayden Miller combined for 28 points for the Sugarbeeters, while Lainey Gregory scored 13 for the Pioneers. Box Elder also remained undefeated with a 64-33 win over Chester-Joplin-Inverness, while Rocky Boy began District 1B play with a 54-30 victory over Great Falls Central. Kirsten LaMere led all scorers in the game with 13 points.

District action continued on Saturday with Turner bouncing back in a big way. The Tornadoes were at home, and they took care of CJI 70-34. Shyann Krass and Sarah Billmayer each poured in 22 points for the Tornadoes, while Lily Wickum and Tatum Hull combined for 21 points for the Hawks.

While Turner got a big win, the big 9C game Saturday night was in Rudyard, but Fort Benton proved too much for the Knights with a 63-41 win. McKenzie Clark and Aspen Giese combined for 33 points for Fort Benton, while Shayla Borlaug scored 12 and Jade Wendland added 11 for the Knights.

HLP got its first 9C win Saturday night as the T-Birds crushed Big Sandy 62-14, while Box Elder took care of Chinook 62-33. Rocky Boy suffered a tough loss Saturday night, falling at Shelby 55-47.
