Havre High's Kadia Miller drives the ball past the Lewistown defense during the Blue Ponies' win Friday night inside the HHS gymnasium. Not only did Havre beat Lewistown with the clock running in the second half, but the Ponies did the same to Sidney Saturday, to improve to 7-1 on the season. Havre is on the road for two games next weekend.

Another weekend of conference games came and went, and with them came two more big wins for the Havre High girls basketball team.

But the wins were not just big because they were against conference opponents, but also by the margin of victory for the Blue Ponies, as well.

Havre started the weekend against a long-time rival in the Lewistown Golden Eagles Friday in the Havre High Gymnasium, where the Ponies gashed the Golden Eagles 72-13 in a blowout. Then, HHS traveled down to Sidney to play the Eagles in a road game, in which the blue-and-white grounded Sidney 84-34.

Both games shined more light on Havre's hopes of another great season, but against the Golden Eagles, the Ponies proved just how much they could do on the court in what was their best performance of the season to date.

Havre did not leave any room for Lewistown from the opening tip. The Ponies began the game on a quick 5-0 run, but that blazed a trail to a massive 24-0 run led by senior Kyndall Keller and sophomore Sadie Filius. The Blue Pony offense did some big work, but the defensive side of the ball smothered the Golden Eagles and held them to a single point the entire quarter as Havre had a big lead 28-1.

Keller and Filius continued to dominate moving toward the half with a nice 9-0 run to open the quarter, but Loy Waid, Kylie Walker and Kadia Miller each added some baskets, too. Lewistown had some responses from Taylin Trafton and Kylie Zimmer, who were the only two Golden Eagles to put up points throughout the entire game, but Havre kept the strong lead at the half 46-4

Keller, who was HHS' leading scorer on the day, was proud of what her team accomplished against Lewistown in the first half.

"I think the team did really great," Keller said. "Everybody came out ready to go and kicked some butt. We all played really hard, worked together and got the job done."

Havre continued to move forward in the second half by starting off on a 10-0 run with Katie Wirtzberger and Waid at the helm, and a quick jumper by Britton Paulson capped the run. Trafton added another field goal to the day for Lewistown, but Waid and Jessa Chvilicek added six more points on the night as the Ponies sat comfortably at a 62-6 lead and finished the game off in a quick fourth quarter.

To hold Lewistown to just 13 points was a statement in itself, and Filius was on lockdown alongside her teammates for most of the game. Not much got past Filius and she is happy about how the Blue Pony defense showed up.

"I feel like our team was just really pumped the whole time," said Filius. "It got us going and got our intensity fired up."

Keller led the Ponies in the game with 23 points, followed by Filius with 14 and Waid scored eight points.

HHS kept the energy up in the win against Lewistown and brought the same fire in Sidney, grabbing a conference win over the Eagles to go undefeated in the Northeast A and continue to dominate. In Sidney, the Ponies had Keller lead with 24 points, Filius had 15, Waid had 13 points and Miller had eight points on the night. Rounding out the scoring for Havre was junior Kylie Walker and senior Jessa Chvilicek, who each had seven along with six points from senior Katie Wirtzberger.

The Blue Ponies (7-1) will return to the road against the Browning Indians this Friday at 6 p.m. in Browning, followed by another road-game pitted against the Class B Fairfield Eagles this Saturday in Fairfield at 6:30 p.m.
