Obituary - Darlene Tonjum

With great sadness, we write Darlene Tonjum's ending story. She left us peacefully at the age of 73 January 3, 2020, in Great Falls after complications from a sudden illness. Our loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend was surrounded throughout the week by all those who loved her.

Darlene was born October 31, 1946, in Havre, MT, to Lloyd A. and Lois (Crites) Olson. She spent her childhood raised on the east end of Havre with her brother Terry Olson, late sister Rhonda Olson and little sister Kristy Olson.

Darlene was a beloved wife to her high school sweetheart, the late Larry Tonjum, and her second blessed marriage to her late husband Bill Olsen. She was proud of and wonderfully devoted to her three daughters, Carra (Tim) Palmer, Julie (Chris) Travis, and Janet (Steve) Haas, and stepchildren, Rhonda Hendrickson and Billy Jack (Rita) Olsen. Darlene was a loving grandmother to Jared (Alex) Esteves, Jordan Haas, Amanda (C.J. Stordahl) Haas, Tyler (Charitee) Palmer, Hannah Haas, Brandon Travis, and Evan Travis, numerous nieces and nephews and stepgrandchildren. She also leaves her dear friend Les Blair and many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

Darlene lived a full life as a farm wife and wonderful mother. Our mother led by example. There was never a job too large or too small that she would not tackle. Mom was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her daughters strong values that have served them well. Darlene will be forever remembered for her beautiful smile, caring heart, and unconditional love. She had a long-standing relationship with God and was very blessed with strong faith to the last day. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate her life and find comfort that she is now in heaven watching over us.

Darlene's life will be celebrated at First Lutheran Church in Havre Friday, January 24th, at 11:00 a.m. with lunch to follow and a private burial will be held later.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to First Lutheran Church in Havre, P.O. Box 66, Havre, MT 59501 or a charity of one's choice. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements.
