Local pushes to get Havre an HGTV town makeover

A local business owner is pushing to get people behind her efforts to get Havre on television with a town makeover.

Boyce and Berry Flowers owner Kimmi Boyce made a Facebook post on Havre’s Questions, Comments and Concerns Wednesday encouraging people to respond to HGTV to nominate Havre for a town makeover in the upcoming HGTV series “Home Town Takeover.” The television network is calling the series its “biggest renovation project ever — a takeover to makeover an entire town.”

The series will be hosted by Ben and Erin Napier of HGTV’s “Home Town.”

Boyce said the basic three parameters needed for a town are having a population of less than 40,000 people, homes with great architecture longing to be revealed, and a main street that needs a facelift.

“Havre is perfect for this contest because it fits the three main parameters,” she said. “ … Also, Havre inhabitants are ready for change and revitalization and are just itching to find ways to contribute to Havre’s beauty and overall worth.”

Boyce said this not only interests her as a resident of Havre, but as a business owner.

“My business is downtown, and I live near the historic district, so my heart is here,” she said. “I just want to see Havre as beautiful as it can be so we can all take great pride in the place we live and invest our lives in.”

She added that Havre has so many historic and natural aspects to it: the Wahkpa Chu’gn Buffalo Jump, Fort Assinniboine, Havre Beneath the Streets, the lakes and mountains and more.

“Personally, I’d love to see the Atrium restored to its historic exterior and update the interior, or back to vintage roots inside, too. It’s such a large and central downtown building,” she said. “I feel its transformation would be paramount for the vibe of a revitalized downtown.”

Boyce said the submission requires basic contact info, five pictures, at most, and one video.

People can nominate Havre at https://hgtvhometowntakeover.com/?fbclid=IwAR06vEi_VvaXHhC5Wi6Gu3JVJZMzIDJR68P2zXkd3E536YfecJW5zvxSBPk .

Deadline for submission is Tuesday, Feb. 4.

“Everyone here should send in a submission for Havre,” Boyce said. “The more attention we can garner, the better our chances are of being considered as a viable choice for this show, she said. I hope Havreites rise up to represent our home through this super-neat opportunity.”
