Streaking Pony girls host Glendive, Miles City

It has been quite the win streak for the Havre High girls basketball team this season, especially in Northeast A conference matchups. The Blue Ponies have yet to be defeated in conference play and Havre looks to keep that narrative in its next few games.

It is back to Northeast A competition tonight against the Glendive Lady Devils at 7:30, followed by a faceoff with the Miles City Cowgirls Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Both conference battles will take place in the Havre High Gymnasium.

HHS head coach Dustin Kraske and the Ponies had some great battles against the Lady Devils and Cowgirls back in December on the road to kick off Northeast A play. The first game against a particular opponent is tough right off the bat, but the second time playing that team can be even harder.

But Havre has a lot of team-orientated skills and big talent on its roster that make it a tough adversary on the court. On top of that, the Ponies have been ranked in the top five for Eastern A teams in polls, adding to the credibility of their powerhouse prowess.

Havre's senior leadership has been a big factor in their success this season, too. Seniors Kyndall Keller, Kadia Miller, Katie Wirtzberger, Sam Oliver and Jessa Chvilicek have been a great foundation and support throughout the season. There have been multiple games where each of these senior stars made some big contributions on the hardwood.

And that leadership gives the rest of the team a boost of energy and synergy on the court. Players like Kylie Walker, Loy Waid and Sadie Filius are also key weapons in Havre's attack. Overall, the Blue Ponies' skills are spread out among the team to create a balanced attack. But Glendive and Miles City will be looking to disrupt that balance.

Meanwhile, the Lady Devils have a lot to play for against Havre tonight. As of now, Glendive sits just one win behind HHS in the conference standings, the Ponies are 4-0 and the Lady Devils are 3-1. So tonight's game is essentially the battle for the top spot in the Northeast A.

Players like Karsen Murphy will be looking to help the Lady Devils get revenge against the Ponies today. An upset on the road would be big for Glendive, especially when it is over a tough opponent like Havre. In the end, the Lady Devils have their eyes on dethroning the Blue Ponies in Northeast A.

Meanwhile, Saturday's game with Miles City will carry a different tone. The Cowgirls currently sit without a win this season. Miles City will be aiming for a big upset in the Northeast A to pick up its first season win, with seniors Sydney Johnstone and Elise Anderson ready to make some noise on the road.

The next two games for Havre have a lot of weight with them, as conference matchups often do, but the Blue Ponies will look to keep Glendive and Miles City at bay to stay ahead in the Northeast A. In fact, Havre can wrap up the Northeast A title with a sweep at home this weekend.

The Ponies (9-1) face off in the Havre High Gymnasium against the Lady Devils today at 7:30 p.m., followed by the matchup versus the Cowgirls Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
